Accessibility Statement
What is accessibility?
Accessibility refers to the practice of making websites accessible to all people, regardless of any disability they may have. sbh is aware that different website visitors have different needs and recognises the importance of providing a website that is accessible to all.
Access keys:
Access keys are keyboard shortcuts that can be used to navigate through a website. They are intended to help users who find it difficult to use pointing devices such as a mouse. In Internet Explorer on Windows, you press ALT + an access key; on Macintosh, you press Control + an access key. Then press Enter to activate the link.
The access keys used on this site are based on the 'UK Government access key standard' as described in section 2.4.4 of the Guidelines for UK Government websites:
- [0] link to Accessibility Statement (this page)
- [1] link to Homepage
- [3] link to Site Map
- [8] link to Privacy Policy
- [9] link to Contact Us
- [s] skip to main content
The following access keys are also used on this site:
- [2] link to What We Do
- [4] link to Projects
- [5] link to Client List
- [6] link to News
- [7] link to Job Opportunities
Standards Compliance:
Accessible web coding relies on standards; these standards are defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (the W3C). In order for web pages to function predictably and reliably, pages must be built in line with these standards. All pages in this website validate as XHTML Transitional and all related stylesheets also validate.
The W3C's Web Accessibility Initiative has published guidelines for building accessible websites. All pages in this website are designed to comply with all priority 1, 2 and 3 (where possible) guidelines of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
At the present time, the UK does not have a set of web accessibility guidelines, however, all pages are Section 508 approved, complying with all the U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines.
Images:
All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include empty ALT attributes.
Links:
Whenever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
There are no javascript: pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.
There are no links that open new windows without warning.
Visual presentation:
This site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), where possible, for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the use of structured semantic mark-up ensures that the content of each page is still readable and clearly structured.
CSS enables users to customise pages to suit their own needs using their own styles. The text and background colours can all be overridden with your own preferences, catering for your needs. This is usually possible in the browser option or accessibility settings.
The text size used on this website is relative, allowing you to adjust the size of the text in your browser.
The font and background colour combinations have been checked against the different colour blindness conditions to ensure that all information is still clear.
